John Mayer Breaks Down on Stage over Playboy Interview

John Mayer has came out with some recent songs that a lot of people like. His music is kind of different then what I listen to but I have nothing against it. He recently was interviewed in the Playboy magazine and used the N word when talking about the hood. Right after the interview he has to explain to everyone that he did not intend for the word to be racist, he was trying to refer to the group of people from the hood. On twitter he apologizes and says, "It was arrogant of me to think that I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there is no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged." John performed a concert in Nashville later that night. He stopped in the middle of one of his songs and broke down. He appoligized for using that word and he even cried. Just because he is famous, I do not think it gives him a right to use that word. It is very unnecessary and offending to other people. He should think over what he is going to say before he says it infront of the media. Appoligizing for something you already did and can't take back, is tough for some fans to forgive. John's insident should open up the eyes of other stars, so they all can learn from this and watch what they say. They are suppose to be role models for younger people.

  1. I also do not think that it is right that he used that word in an interview. It doesn’t matter who you are that is offensive to a lot of people so why even put yourself in the situation where you are going to have to apologize for what you said. I was watching the news today and they were talking about celebrity apologizes and how it is acceptable for them to turn to twitter or other ways like that to apologize, but I disagree. These celebrities are starting to think that they can get away with whatever they want and just post a simple apology or a “heartfelt” press conference or interview. I think these celebrities need to start being good role models right away instead of saying things like he said and then asking for forgiveness.

  2. I agree that famous people are supposed to be somewhat of role models to us as teenagers finding our paths in life and also to other young children and even adults. I understand that it is very hard to be careful of what you say and do because you are constantly in the public eye, but before most interviews they give you a run through of questions they will be asking. In that time you could of been thinking of what you want to say and even consider what you should and shouldn't say.

  3. While it certainly wasn't smart for John Mayer to use offensive language in an interview, it shouldn't be the end to his career. The man's a human--with various human faults. Realistically, how many college students utter profanity on a daily bases? The only true difference between that everyday situation and the one that Mayer is facing, is that the college students are not (usually anyway) written about. Any fan that drops John Mayer, especially after he apologized, wasn't a true fan to begin with. I am willing to bet he will think twice before speaking openly during interviews after this situation; however, this situation shouldn't break his career.

  4. John Mayer made a terrible mistake. No one should ever utter that work, especially in an interview millions of people will be exposed to. Although I think it was a terrible mistake, I do think he went about apologizing the right way. He obviously can’t take back his unacceptable actions, but he was a good enough person to show his regrets. He apologized several times and to many people, and no one required him to apologize. I think it was very considerate of him to apologize so many times, but he needs to be more careful of what he says in the future.
